Isaiah
46:9-11
Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I
am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning,
and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel
shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: Calling a ravenous bird from
the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have
spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do
it.

A GIANT STEP OF FAITH
Methodist church groups
at Flat Rock grew rapidly, keeping in step with the country's growth. These
groups began looking for larger meeting places. In 1886, Methodist church
leaders saw a need to build additional facilities. Approximately half the
Methodist population of Flat Rock moved closer to Douglasville. This group
became the founders of the Douglasville First United Methodist. The
remaining Methodist's at Flat Rock chose to stay in the immediate
community. In July, 1886, a portion of property was donated to the
Methodist Episcopal Church, South, (today's United Methodist
Church) to build a
church. Applying for charter and sponsorship from the North Georgia
Conference, Bright
Star United
Methodist Church
was born. In February 1970, Bright Star petitioned the North Georgia
Conference to become a "station" church. The North Georgia
Conference granted our request. A capital funding program was initiated and
construction began in September 1978 on a new church across the road from
the current church. The building reached completion in April 1979.
Consecration of the new sanctuary building took place on May 6, 1979. In
1987, ground was broken for an Administration
Building which
included offices, media center, fellowship hall and kitchen. In 1995 a new parsonage
was constructed on the church property and in 1998, a renovation of the
sanctuary was completed. 1999 saw the addition of a third morning worship
celebration. Plans were also unveiled for a new Family Life
Center to be built in
2001. Great things have happened and great things are in store for all of
us at Bright Star.
